PROTECT YOUR BUSINESS BEYOND FORTINET EOL

Why Fortinet EOL Matters | End of Life Risks

Unsupported hardware doesn't just slow you down – it leaves you exposed.

icon-fortinetEOL-2-1

Security Risks

When Fortinet devices reach End of Life, they no longer receive critical security patches. This leaves your network exposed to new vulnerabilities, exploits, and malware attacks.

icon-fortinetEOL-2-2

Lack of Vendor Support

After the EOL date, Fortinet stops providing technical support, bug fixes, and firmware updates. That means troubleshooting becomes harder and downtime more likely.

icon-fortinetEOL-2-3

Compliance Issues

Many industries require that security infrastructure runs on fully supported hardware and software. Using Fortinet EOL products can put you at risk of non-compliance with standards like ISO, GDPR, PCI DSS, or HIPAA.

Upgrade & Scalability Limitations

EOL devices may not support new features, integrations, or performance requirements. This can slow down business growth and prevent you from scaling your infrastructure efficiently.

Why SASE Is the Smarter Path Forward

Replacing an end-of-life firewall with another appliance just restarts the same cycle. SASE eliminates the hardware refresh treadmill by converging security and networking in the cloud.

icon-fortinetEOL-5-1

No More Hardware Cycles

SASE is cloud-native — no appliances to rack, maintain, or replace every 5 years. Your security stays current automatically.

icon-fortinetEOL-5-2

Built for Today's Traffic

With most traffic headed to the cloud, backhauling through a branch firewall creates bottlenecks. SASE inspects traffic at the edge, closer to users and apps.

icon-fortinetEOL-5-3

Unified Security + Networking

Replace your firewall, SD-WAN, VPN, and CASB with a single platform. Fewer vendors, fewer gaps, simpler management.

icon-fortinetEOL-5-4

Scales with Your Business

Adding a new branch or remote worker? No hardware shipment needed. SASE scales instantly through the cloud.

General Availability (GA)

This is when Fortinet officially releases a new product, making it available for purchase and full vendor support.

Example: Fortigate 100E

icon-fortinetEOL-3-2
End of Sale (EOS)
Cannot buy new units; support begins to taper.
icon-fortinetEOL-3-2

End of Sale (EOS)

Fortinet announces that a product is no longer being sold. While you can still use existing units, no new purchases are possible, and support is gradually reduced.

Example: End of Order - August 17, 2021

End of Life (EOL)
Security patches and updates officially end.

End of Life (EOL)

The official retirement date of the product. At this stage, Fortinet stops releasing firmware updates and patches, which impacts performance and security.

Example: Last Service Extension Date - August 17, 2025

Your EOL and EOS Questions, Answered

Get clear answers to the most common questions about Fortinet End of Life (EOL), End of Support (EOS), and End of Service Life (EOSL).

End of Life (EOL) means that Fortinet has officially retired a product. At this point, the device will no longer receive firmware updates, security patches, or new features, leaving it increasingly vulnerable to modern threats.

EOL marks when Fortinet discontinues updates and development for a product. EOS goes a step further: it's the date Fortinet ends all technical support, troubleshooting, and replacement services.

These terms are often used interchangeably. EOSL typically refers to the final point when Fortinet no longer provides any form of assistance or services for the product, making it critical to transition to newer hardware or supported solutions.

You can verify EOL status by reviewing Fortinet's official product lifecycle page or working with a trusted partner like Aseva, who tracks these dates and helps clients plan ahead.

The EOL date is when the product stops receiving updates, while the EOS date is when Fortinet discontinues support. These dates vary by model, so it's essential to check the lifecycle list for your device.

An end-of-life vulnerability is a security gap that arises when an outdated device no longer receives patches. Cybercriminals often target EOL products because their weaknesses are widely known but unaddressed by the vendor.

Continuing to use an EOL product increases risk of cyberattacks, downtime, and compliance violations. You may also lose access to vendor support, making it harder to recover from failures or outages.

Most migrations can be completed in 2 to 4 weeks depending on the complexity of your network, number of sites, and existing policy configurations. Aseva handles the entire process, including policy translation, phased traffic cutover, and post-migration validation, so your team experiences minimal disruption during the transition.

Fortinet offers the following major lifecycle milestones:

End of Order (EOO): is last date on which a product may be ordered.
Last Service Extension Date (LSED): The last date at which a service extension is accepted for an existing contract, for a hardware or software product. This is 12 months before the EOS date for most products, and 90 days after the End-of-life notification for stand-alone services.
End of Engineering Support for Software (EOES): The date beyond which Fortinet no longer commits to provide engineering support for software. After this date the software enters a must-fix support phase, during which maintenance builds will only be produced for industry-wide critical issues and PSIRT vulnerabilities. The EOES date is generally 36 months after the GA date.
End of Support Date (EOS): Fortinet will not sell, manufacture or improve the product after this date and is under no obligation to provide support services. In general the EOS takes place as follows:
Hardware – 60 months after the EOO Date
